Day Explorers is run by the Koh-Yam family, a home educating family near London. This page explains what information we collect when you use dayexplorers.com, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Your email address, but only if you sign up for our emails.
- Suggestions and mistake reports you send us through our form, plus your email address if you choose to give it so we can reply.
- Anonymous visit counts: how many people visit, which places they open, which websites they click through to, and how many sign up. These counts don't identify you, and we don't use cookies to make them.
We don't ask for names, addresses or anything about your children.
Why we collect it
- Email address: to send you new places and upcoming home ed days. We only do this because you asked us to, and you can stop at any time.
- Suggestions: to add new places and correct mistakes, and to reply to you if you asked us to.
- Visit counts: to see which parts of the site are useful, so we can improve it.
We never sell your information or share it with anyone else for their own use.
Which services store it
- Buttondown stores the email addresses and sends our emails. It's based in the US.
- Umami stores the anonymous visit counts.
- Cloudflare hosts the website. Like any website host, it handles your IP address (your internet connection's address) to deliver the page and protect the site from attacks.
- Google stores suggestions sent through our form (Google Forms). Also, the list of places is loaded from Google Sheets and the site's font comes from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when you open the page.
- OpenStreetMap provides the map, so your browser connects to OpenStreetMap's servers to load it. If you tap "Open in Google Maps", Google Maps' own privacy terms apply there.
Some of these companies may store information outside the UK.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We delete suggestions once we've dealt with them, or within a year.
Unsubscribing and your rights
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. You can also email us to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
